Public Speech Coaching
“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled”
William Butler Yeats
- Do you have a speech coming up, and you’re nervous or even terrified?
- Do you want your next presentation to make an impact and impress your audience?
- Do you want to be able to speak in public, and hear your audience laugh, applaud, and congratulate you when you finish?
I can help. Draw on my 10 years of speaking experience to transform your fear into passion, learn from my mistakes so you don’t repeat them, and get all my tricks to receive smiles, nods and applause from your audience.
Get Your Audience to Nod In Agreement
The build up to a presentation can be daunting. You have a topic you know intimately, you’re an expert, yet the blank page taunts you. Where do you start? How do you start? Let me guide you with some techniques that will enable you to choose a theme for your speech, and from there, to build up and out, so that your presentation will have a logical flow the audience can follow and enjoy.
There is much more to a speech than just the words. Once you’ve written it, you need to present it competently, so your audience will focus on your ideas, not on their next dinner. Use my experience presenting to senior New Zealand Navy officers, the CEOs and top management of leading New Zealand corporations, and hundreds of ordinary (and extra-ordinary) audience members. Learn from my mistakes (I’ve made a few) and shorten your learning curve to get your audience nodding in agreement, not nodding off to sleep.
Create Surprise and Drama
Public speaking has been around for as long as there has been a public to speak to. But there is still a chance to make your speech fresh and innovative. Curiosity and surprise are great emotions to get your audience listening, laughing, and remembering you and your message long after the speech is over. Because we are both creative people, let me help you think outside the box, and add fresh surprise and drama to your speech.
These days, the audience expects a multi-media approach to public speaking. You’ll have to prepare PowerPoint slides, and hand-outs, so your message is available in many different ways. It’s important to keep your slides and handouts as fresh and interesting as your speech. I can help design and review your slides so the message you present is consistent and memorable. And I’ll help ensure that your slides don’t distract the audience from the star of the presentation – you!
Keep Your Heart Intact
There’s nothing worse than putting your heart into a speech, then having someone criticise it to shreds. My coaching style is always about listening to you, picking up on the detail, and offering suggestions that keep your voice and heart intact. Your heart holds your hope, your hope grows your confidence, your confidence impresses your audience, and at the end of the speech, you’ll come away feeling awesome.
When you speak well, with confidence, passion, and knowledge, your audience will build a lasting impression of you. That positive impression can result in new friends, new business opportunities, and an acknowledged position as an expert in your field. With public speaking skill, you’ll become someone worth listening to.
